Visual Merchandising Course For London School of Trends

Visual Merchandising Course For London School of Trends

This month it was great to be back at the London School of Trends, teaching this term’s student’s an Introduction into Visual Merchandising. The classes were part theory and part practical training, the theory side was taught at the North Acton campus, West London which gave us a good location to visit some inspiring retailers in Central London.

I focused upon the importance of the Pop Up Shop on my classes and how these spaces are now creating the best examples of experimental retail to a consumer audience who wants to be entertained through multiple sensory experiences whilst they are shopping within a physical space.

It is with great pleasure to be working again this year, with Moodart School of Fashion Communication based in Verona, Italy. During their student visit to London this month, I joined the group to run a Visual Merchandising Workshop around our city.

The workshop commenced with a short lecture introducing the student’s to the fundamental principles of Visual Merchandising techniques and how current consumer trends can be incorporated within retail. We also discussed how Visual Merchandising can be effective when creating today’s Pop Up Shops and concepts. We looked at the luxury fashion brands who are creating a visual and sensory experience to drive interest back to physical retail due to their creative Pop Up concepts across the globe.

Visual Merchandising Training For River & Rowing Museum Henley

Visual Merchandising Training For River & Rowing Museum Henley

This month it was great to be back teaching an in person, practical Visual Merchandising Course for the lovely retail team in their new store at The River & Rowing Museum in Henley on Thames. The Museum is currently undergoing renovation works and the new site will reopen later in the Spring, so our Visual Merchandising workshop was perfectly timed to assist the retail team with planning their new store layout and product merchandising techniques. The Museum also features a brilliant children’s attraction themed around the story of “Wind in the Willows”, we wanted to build a connection from the attraction into the gift shop and bring through the theatre which can be found through the exhibit.

Visual Merchandising Guideline & Manual Creation

Visual Merchandising Guideline & Manual Creation

his month we have been creating a Visual Merchandising Manual for some lovely new clients at the Essex Wildlife Trust. Creating bespoke VM guidelines which will help to achieve effective and consistent presentation standards across their retail sites.

The manual contains lots of easy to implement visual examples, giving the user an overview of the key VM principles and how these can then be successfully implemented across the shop floor. Techniques are clearly explained within the visuals to ensure effective implementation, even for staff members who are not professionally trained in Visual Merchandising.

Final Visual Merchandising Workshop of 2022

Final Visual Merchandising Workshop of 2022

Wishing all our VMC blog readers Happy Holidays !

Just before Christmas I ran the final Visual Merchandising workshop of 2022 in London on behalf of The London School of Trends for their fantastic Interior Design students attending their December courses.

I planned the VM workshop so that it would be a practical based course, where I could also incorporate a retail safari across London, to present the festive Visual merchandising to the students and for them to see the styling principles in place on our high streets ! Within the retail safari tour, we visited Tom Dixon in Coals Drop Yard, then headed over to Liberty’s and Selfridges. I have included within the photos below beautiful examples of Visual merchandising seen at these stores.

Visual Merchandising Bespoke Course For Two Ducks Lifestyle Store

Visual Merchandising Bespoke Course For Two Ducks Lifestyle Store

Last month I had the pleasure in running a bespoke Visual Merchandising Course for independent retailer, Two Ducks Lifestyle Store in Woking, Surrey.
The practical workshop was held in store with owner, Claire and her amazing team where I presented the key principles of Visual Merchandising, focusing upon how these can be used effectively for both practically and commercially purposes.
We then started to implement the teaching into practice, creating a Summer hot spot area which connected up the concept and theme of their current window. We also worked on product presentation, link selling and considered product location to maximise the product located at the eye level focal point for their customers.
